Considering a trip to Ensenada? Here are some points of interest and activities you can expect to discover during your next trip to Baja:
Gray Whale Watching
A relative of Humpback and Blue Whales, Gray Whales are the most common type of whale seen off the coast of the Baja Peninsula. They seek out the warm waters of Baja’s many lagoons for calving. The whales can be seen any time from late November to late March with the greatest number of sightings during the month of February; whale watching tours leave daily from many different ports throughout Ensenada.
Sport Fishing Tours
The waters off the coast of Baja in Ensenada are perfect for both short and long range fishing adventure tours. Ensenada Baja California has been known for its sport fishing for over fifty years and there are many different types of tours offered for all classes of fisherman from novice to expert. On a short range day trips you can expect to crank in Bass, Bonita, Barracuda, Cod and Yellowtail, while the long range trips tend to pull in Tuna, Albacore and Dorado.
Rivera Del Pacifico Convention Center
In the 1930s this was a booming casino in the heart of Ensenada. It has since been restored and a museum has been created within the majestic ballrooms, chandeliers and casino areas. This is the center for Ensenada’s social and cultural events. Take a stroll through the gardens landscaped with monuments detailing the history of Baja California or enjoy a Margarita at Bar Andaluz.
Hussong’s Cantina
This bar holds the honor of being the oldest cantina in the Californias and is a designated historical landmark. The bar offers a laid back atmosphere for locals and tourists alike providing music, excellent pina coladas, and the customary bag of peanuts.
Paseo Calle Primera
Newly renovated shopping promenade located along Av. Lopez Mateos from Av. Castillo to Av. Ryerson. Stroll through this eclectic shopping district, then relax and enjoy al fresco dining and people-watching.
Boulevard Costero
The best way to experience the beauty of this coastal route is by horse drawn carriage. Rides are available daily from 9 am to 6 pm at Blvd. Costero & Macheros.
El Malecon
Take in some shops along the new boardwalk in the downtown waterfront from Azueta to Av. Castillo. Relax and enjoy the view at Parque Ventana al Mar (Window to the Sea Park) with its monumental Mexican flag.
Open-Air Fish Market
Located on the waterfront area of El Malecon, this is the largest fish market in Northern Baja. Local fisherman offer many types of fish and shellfish, and be sure not to miss out on Ensenada’s specialty, fish tacos.
Plaza Civica
Locally known as “Three Heads Park” or Chapultepec Hills, this scenic park is on Blvd. Costero & Macheros. Be sure to follow Calle 2 up to get a fabulous panoramic view of Ensenada from one of the city’s most attractive residential areas.
Statue of Tara and Ecological Park
A huge, handpainted statue symbolizing Mother Nature was a gift of peace and friendship from a Nepalese cultural organization. The park overlooks the city on the original site of the 1930s Fort Keki. The statue is located on Calle 13 between Av. Obregon & Moct.
Flea Markets
Rummage through trash, treasures and curios at Ensenada’s largest outdoor swap meet, Los Globos. Located on Calle 9 three blocks east of Reforma. The flea market is open daily, but weekends are best.
San Quintin
A colorful and bustling agricultural center that stretches along both sides of the coastal highway. With sandy beaches along both ocean and bays, it is also a seasonal paradise for outdoor and wildlife aficionados offering excellent opportunities for fishing, hunting, hiking and birdwatching. San Quintin has something for everybody and provides a wide assortment of restaurants, hotels, RV parks, stores and services
Catavina
This is a very small town located along Highway 1, situated in a desert garden oasis of unique granite rock formations. Cave paintings, old abandoned ranches, mission ruins and many species of cacti and desert plants found nowhere else make Cataviña a point of interest.
Bahia De Los Angeles
This translated in english means “The Bay of Angels” and its a place where the desert and mountains meet the warm waters within the Sea of Cortez. With its unique geography, Bahia De Los Angeles is popular among anglers, water sports enthusiasts, hikers and explorers.
