Carnival de Ensenada - “Fiesta Mitologica de los Dioses”

From February 11 to 16, Ensenada will host one of its largest and most popular events.  Ensenada’s version of Mardi Gras attracts a multitude of national and international visitors to Baja California, Mexico.  Enjoy regional foods and libations, games and rides, live entertainment, music and dancing in the beachfront festival zone along the southern extension of Blvd. Costero from Calle Esmeralda to Calle Las Palmas.

Traditional festivites include The Burning of Bad Humor (Quema de Mal Humor), The Coronation of the Royal Court on Friday, Carnaval Parades starting at 2 pm on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, and the Oppressed Spouse Dance (Baile del Marido Oprimido) on Monday.

Bob Marley Day Celebration in Ensenada, Mexico

On February 6 from 7-11:30pm enjoy a festival celebrating the life of icon Bob Marley.  The festival will feature ska, reggae and Africano customs/music honoring the great Bob Marley.  The event will be held at Plaza Pueblo Amigo, located on Av. Ruiz across from Restaurant Mahi Mahi in Ensenada.

Bahia de los Angeles 200 - Off Road Race

On February 5 and 6, cars, trucks, motorcycles and quads from Baja California, Mexico and southern California will compete for cash prizes in a challenging four-lap race on a 50-kilometer circuit in Bahía de los Angeles on the Sea of Cortés.  The Sea of Cortes is located approximately 330 miles southeast of Ensenada.  Tech inspection is Friday from 5-10pm in the park and the race start is Saturday at 7am (motorcycles) and 10am (4-wheel vehicles) on the main boulevard.  The race awards will be given Saturday at 6pm at Casa Díaz.

Todos Santos Big Wave Surfing Event

If you are planning to be in Ensenada, Mexico during the month of February, be alert for the Todos Santos Big Wave Event.  Twenty-four of the best big wave surfers on the planet will compete in giant surf during a one-day event at Todos Santos islands, which are located 12 miles west of Ensenada, Baja California.  There is no set date for the surf contest, instead it will take place with 72-48 hours notice on the day with the most favorable swells and climate during the February.  For additional information Ricardo Domínguez, U.S. tel. Guided Whale Watching Tours in Ensenada, Mexico

Take advantage of the warm Baja waters and spend a day whalewatching for Gray Whales off the coast of Mexico.  A relative of Humpback and Blue Whales, Gray Whales are the most common type of whale seen off the coast of the Baja Peninsula.  The whales can be seen any time from late November to late March with the greatest number of sightings during the month of February.

There are two main areas around Ensenada, Mexico where whales can be seen.

Todos Santos Bay

Scammon’s Lagoon or Laguna Ojo de Liebre

Schedule a trip during the whale watching months for your chance to experience a close-up encounter with the California gray whales and their calves in the warm, coastal  Pacific waters of Scammon’s Lagoon (Laguna Ojo de Liebre).  Make plans for a road trip away from Ensenada if you want to watch the whales on this coast, Scammon’s Lagoon is located almost 370 miles south of Ensenada.  Also known as Guerrero Negro, this region is the southernmost portion of Baja California Sur.
